When it comes to buying a new smart phone the screen resolution is the main aspect which we take into consideration. The screen quality makes big difference in the form of experience. Better the quality, better the experience. Screen resolution has evolved exponentially in past few years. But nowadays minimum HD display comes out of the box. Here we will try to explain you what exactly are HD, Full HD, Quad HD and Ultra HD displays.

Screen quality is determined using ppi i.e. pixel per inch. That means if a square is considered of 1 x 1 inch, how many pixels fit into that area is considered as pixel per inch or it is also called as pixel density. This determines the quality of a display. If a HD display is considered i.e. 1080 x 720 pixels, then a 5 inch screen will have better quality compared to 10 inch screen. Because ppi is greater on small screen. Usually small screen have better screen quality.

HD

HD stands for High Definition. It has 1280 x 720 pixels resolutions. This is the most common screen resolution seen this days. Normally budget smartphones has HD displays. HD displays have good quality and is absolutely fine for day-to-day use.

Most of the content available online is also in HD quality. HD resolution screen with 5 inch in size has ppi = 251.

Full HD

Full HD is the next step to HD. It has 1920 x 1280 pixels resolution. This is also the most common screen resolution available in the market. Normally mid range smartphones has full HD displays.

If we consider a screen size of 5 inches then the ppi would be 461.

QHD or Quad HD or 2K

Quad HD is 4 times larger than HD display. That means in Quad HD display you can actually fit 4 standard HD displays. Quad HD has 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution. This is really very higher resolution and the picture quality offered by this is way better than standard HD.

A 5 inch screen size with 2K resolution would have ppi = 587.

Ultra HD or 4K

Ultra HD and 4K displays are not similar. These two terms are bit confusing. The 4K comes from 2K. So 4k has 4096 pixels and Ultra HD has 3840 pixels. Ultra HD has a resolution of 3860 x 2160 and 4K has a resolution of 4096 x 2160 pixels. There are very few phones which has 4K screen resolution. Normally you can see 4K resolution can only be seen in televisions but that to very few. Because, these technology is new and it will time to get adopt.

Should You Really Buy Those High Definition Smartphones?

Normally the content available over the internet is 1080 px in quality. We see very few video contents beyond 1080 pixels. The content creators also don’t create content beyond these quality. It will take more time to adopt these technologies to their full extent. The phones with higher screen resolutions are expensive, so it is very obvious not to spend money for the thing which we will not use. So, do take your decision wisely.
